Is Jane Iredale mineral makeup safe for all skin types?
It's important to know that anyone can be allergic or sensitive to anything. We have tested each product for sensitivity on a test panel of 50 people in a laboratory. Individuals with extreme chemical sensitivities successfully wear our make-up. If in doubt, test the product on the inside of your arm.
Can I use Jane Iredale mineral makeup on acne-prone skin?
If you are being treated for acne by a medical professional, please ask them first. Otherwise, we are confident our makeup will not aggravate acne-prone skin and may even help it.
Our makeup is entirely non-comedogenic, allowing the skin to breathe and function normally. It also easily covers the redness often associated with breakouts. We've had many aestheticians tell us they've seen an improvement in their clients' skin since they started using Jane Iredale.
Do I need to use extra sunscreen if I'm wearing Jane Iredale mineral makeup?
No. You can, if you wish. We always believe you cannot wear too much protection in the sun.
However, be careful of comedogenic or sensitivity reactions to some chemical sunscreens.
Since our minerals provide a physical sunscreen, you don't need to wait for the protection to begin.
Does HydroPure Tinted Serum have SPF?
No, but it contains ingredients like Co-enzyme Q10 and Vitamin C which help repair UV damage. If you apply a layer of powdered minerals over the serum, you will get protection up to SPF 20, depending on the amount you apply.
Are mineral powders dry?
No, it's actually the other way around. Our minerals absorb moisture between the skin and the particle layer. The idea that powders are drying comes from the high use of talc in most formulas – up to 90%!
Which colors are best for camouflaging redness?
Green and yellow work best. Because green and red are opposite each other on the color wheel, mixing the two creates neutrality. Applying our pure green HydroPure Color Correcting Serum to skin redness helps create a more even, neutral appearance.
Alternatively, our yellow bases will also conceal redness. Our most versatile yellow base is Golden Glow, which is our most popular shade for camouflaging erythema. Warm Sienna, Warm Silk, and Amber also work well.
Do the minerals cover bruises or moles?
Yes. However, the shadow of some darker bruising may be visible. Try Disappear, the peach Circle of Enlighten to camouflage anything the powders don't. Refer to the individual product listings to learn how to use them.
What does the classification 'water and sweat resistant' mean?
According to the FDA monograph, no manufacturer is allowed to claim a "waterproof" rating. After proper lab testing is completed, products are now allowed to state Water Resistant (80 minutes) or Water Resistant (40 minutes). If you are wearing our minerals and sweating heavily or swimming or caught in the rain, do not wipe your face with your towel – just blot it.
You may remove a small amount of minerals, but the majority will remain on the skin. If you are exercising in the sun, it is wise to apply another layer of minerals after drying your face.
Is mineral makeup good for mature skin?
Yes. Because this is a light reflective cosmetic, it hides the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and gives the skin a healthy glow, making it look younger. Matte makeup absorbs light and allows the eye to look "into" the skin.
On very lined skin, it is helpful to spray one of our hydration sprays after applying the minerals. This sets the makeup, softens lines, and gives a dewy look. The technique of spraying the sponge first and applying the minerals as a wash also helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and large pores.
Does the mineral eyeshadow crease?
Normally no, but people with oily eyelids (uncommon) should apply a layer of PureMatte to the eyelids first.
How soon can mineral makeup be applied after laser treatments, microdermabrasion, or peels?
Jane iredale mineral makeup can be applied immediately after microdermabrasion or a light peel, provided the skin is not broken.
Not only do they cover the redness, but the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide can also help soothe the skin. It is also important to replace the protective stratum corneum (top layer of skin) lost after such procedures.
The stratum corneum is the body's first defense against the sun. Application after laser resurfacing should be subject to physician's approval, which may take 5-12 days depending on the type of laser and how deeply it has been used. It is essential for healing skin to be protected from the sun.
Which moisturizer should I use in combination with mineral powders?
BeautyPrep or your favorite. Just wait until it's absorbed so you have a smooth canvas to work on. If you don't wait, the powders will adhere unevenly.
What colorants are in your mineral cosmetics?
We typically color with iron oxides. We use lakes when we need more intense colors.
We use ultramarines (ground Lapis Lazuli, a blue mineral) and chromium oxide green in our blue and green eye shadows.
We use small amounts of carmine in some products when brighter colors are needed. Vegans and others concerned about animal products will want to avoid makeup colors containing carmine.

Is Jane Iredale mineral makeup easy to apply?
Yes! The problem people new to wearing it often encounter is that they apply too much.
Because they are used to using make-up with a lot of filler and little "pay-off", they use the same techniques when applying jane iredale.
With mineral makeup, less is more. For more information on the technique, refer to the individual products.
Do men use Jane Iredale?
Yes. Because the minerals are undetectable, they feel comfortable wearing them.
Newscasters now even use our powders on high-definition television because their old make-up was clearly visible to the television cameras.
Which cleaner should I use?
Our cleansing water, BeautyPrep, or your favourite jane iredale mineral makeup can be removed with any cleanser. However, they will not come off with plain water.
How long does it take to apply a full face of makeup?
Within ten to fifteen minutes, your look will stay put all day and you'll hardly need to touch it up!
Are lip and eye pencils interchangeable?
Absolutely. Jane Iredale lip and eye pencils all contain the same ingredients.
